Picture Book

It's been a long time coming, but finally Muffin Magic, a picture book for four to eight year-olds, is a reality. It's a story I first envisioned 15 years ago when my grandson, Adam was a seven-year-old muffin maker. Fifteen years and at least fifteen revisions later, it is in print, beautifully illustrated by local artist, Ann Ryan.

The story revolves around Adam who loves the special muffins his dad bakes every Saturday morning. He loves his dad, too, but he doesn't love moving every few months because of his dad's job. He has a hard time with each strange new bedroom, strange new house, strange new school, and eating lunch all alone. So when dad says it's time to move again, Adam swings into action. He thinks hard and draws up a plan. Dad gives it a try. If it weren't for those magic muffins, who knows where Adam and his dad would be now?

The story addresses problem-solving, child parent cooperation, single parent families, and learning to cook.

Linda Arms White, author of Too many Pumpkins, Comes a Wind, I Could do That; Esther Morris Gets Women the Vote, and others, says of Muffin Magic: "I've been privileged to watch the progress ofMuffin Magic from its first mixing to through its rise to perfection. It's my favorite kind of story, where a child solves a big problem."
